Missional Disciple-Making

Disciple-making requires doing the work of ministry and evangelism outside the walls of the church. You can’t make disciples in a classroom only. Disciple-making requires a lab, and the world is our lab. It must involve on-the-job training in missional ministry.

Think about it. You can do evangelism without being a disciple maker, but you can’t be a disciple maker without doing evangelism. It’s always good to do evangelism, but too much of our evangelism has focused on simply making converts and not making true disciples.

In Matthew 4:18-25, after calling four fishermen to be His disciples, Jesus immediately took them out to begin training them to be fishers of men. They went out preaching the good news and healing the sick.

Likewise, true disciple makers must train their disciples to do missional ministry. As a minimum goal, they should lead their D-Groups to do six ministry evangelism projects a year outside the walls of the church. Let’s not just make converts; let’s make disciples who make disciples.
